Sheets
The MTCU, APT unit has collaborated with Ontario regulatory bodies
to produce a series of fact sheets that provide profession-specific
information for internationally trained professionals. The fact
sheets set out step-by-step entry and practice requirements and
labour market conditions for specific regulated occupations in
Ontario. To date, there are fact sheets for 15 professions (see
www.equalopportunity.on.ca/eng_g/apt/occfact.html).
Foreign
Trained Teachers Initiative
The Foreign Trained Teachers Initiative is a partnership between
World Skills Centre and the Ontario Foreign Trained Teachers Association.
Its mandate is to implement a program that prepares and supports
the placement of foreign-trained teachers into the Ontario school
system. The three-year project began in July 2000 (see http://ottawa-worldskills.org/teachers/aboutus.htm)

Employment Loan Program
The Maytree Foundation-Metro Credit Union Immigant Employment
Loan
ProgramImmigrant Employment Loan Program provides loans to newcomers
for short-term upgrading that leads to employment in a field he
or she has
previous experience in. The program may also provide loans for
newcomers to undergo an assessment process that will allow him
or her to become certified in a particular trade or profession.
Skills
for Change Mentoring Program
Skills for Change (SFC) has a number of projects underway to help
internationally educated people access their professions. The
SFC Mentoring program is an employment preparation program for
foreign-trained accountants, engineers and life science professionals
to help them achieve their employment goals (see http://www.skillsforchange.org/mentoring/index.html)
